It was in 1926 that George Gershwin began writing his famous opera *Porgy and Bess*, a work destined to become a major classic of the American repertoire. That same year marked the birth of Miles Davis. To mark the legendary trumpeter’s centenary, Aron Doyle chose to bring together these two pivotal figures of American music by presenting a jazz reinterpretation of this iconic work.
The quintet presented this unique project at Sainte-Élisabeth Church, nestled in the heart of North Hatley. Led by Aron Doyle on trumpet, Gershwin’s music was transformed through the language of jazz, allowing ample room for improvisation and interaction among the musicians.
The ensemble’s virtuosity was displayed with remarkable ease, with each musician bringing their own distinctive color and sensibility to this reimagining of *Porgy and Bess*. Blending Gershwin’s timeless melodies with the improvisational spirit associated with Miles Davis, the concert offered a fascinating dialogue between two eras and two musical worlds, united by a shared creative freedom.

Donato Project
Donato Project pays tribute to João Donato, a pianist, composer, and key figure in Brazilian music. Blending jazz, bossa nova, and Brazilian rhythms, the project offers a contemporary instrumental reinterpretation of his repertoire, with improvisation, interaction, and harmonic richness at its core.
Adopting an approach that is both collective and free-spirited, the musicians revisit Donato’s compositions by fostering a dialogue between groove, rhythmic finesse, and spontaneity. Each performance becomes a meeting point where musical precision merges with the freedom of improvisation, creating an aesthetic that is refined, vibrant, and decidedly modern.
