The Sherbrooke Jazz Orchestra presents

The Great Jazz Encounters – Emerging Artists Edition

From one generation to the next… it’s all about jazz!

A Tribute to Gordon Goodwin

CONCERT November 29th 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

Jazz is something that is passed on, reinvented, and shared. In this spirit, the Sherbrooke Jazz Orchestra invites you to a vibrant musical event dedicated to the dazzling world of Gordon Goodwin, under the direction of our guest conductor, Michel Lambert.

A prominent composer, arranger, and bandleader in contemporary jazz, Gordon Goodwin is renowned for his bold arrangements, infectious rhythms, and virtuosic writing, which push the boundaries of the big band format. His music is powerful, refined, and brimming with energy, with every section contributing to a spectacular sonic experience.

For this edition, which highlights the next generation of musicians, we are delighted to welcome the Cégep de Sherbrooke Big Band, led by Muhammad Abdul Al-Khabyyr—a celebrated trombonist and passionate educator.

These young musicians will bring the stage to life with their talent, spirit, and love for jazz, showcasing the vitality of a musical tradition that continues to inspire new generations.

By bringing together the Sherbrooke Jazz Orchestra and the Cégep de Sherbrooke Big Band, *Les Grands Rendez-vous Jazz* celebrate much more than just music: they celebrate the act of passing on knowledge, sharing, and the joy of playing together.

Two generations, a shared love for jazz, and a single stage to showcase the next generation!

An event not to be missed—a place where jazz is lived, shared, and passed on.
