Noedy Hechavarría Duharte is a Cuban saxophonist and composer from Santiago de Cuba, a city nicknamed "la tierra caliente" (the hottest land). He began studying classical saxophone at the age of 11 and, by the age of 15, was performing professionally at the city's carnival festivities. At 17, he moved to Havana, where he played with popular dance orchestras while continuing his studies at the Álvaro Barriel Professional School of Music.
In 2008, Noedy moved to Montreal, Canada, where he earned a bachelor's degree in jazz performance from the University of Sherbrooke. Meanwhile, he continues to perform on the Montreal scene with some of the biggest names in the industry. When he's not touring, Noedy has a home in Victoria, British Columbia, and is also pursuing a master's degree in performance at Laval University in Quebec City.
Noedy studied in New York with world-renowned musicians Danilo Pérez and saxophonist Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, and in Barcelona with Cuban pianist Aruán Ortiz. He also trained with René Bolduc, Frank Lozano, and Ralph Bowen. His career as a musician includes collaborations with internationally acclaimed artists such as John Pizzarelli, Alexander Brown, Rafael Zaldivar, and, more recently, bassist Linda May Han Oh and pianist Fabian Almazán.
In 2024, Noedy released his first album, "MONDAY MORNING." In 2025, he performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival. He is currently touring Quebec with his band, performing as a trio, quartet, or quintet.
