RECORDING THE ALBUM
“We wanted to create a spontaneous album; at the St-Angèle bar, the entire album was recorded in a single take over two consecutive days. We wanted to give this album a certain freshness, something instinctive. These days, music is too often a product with a standardized sonic aesthetic, where every imperfection is corrected, to the point of diluting its message,” explains Bernard Riche, drummer and instigator of this project.
“Recording in a single take forces the musicians to stay connected to the moment and to accept what emerges from this spontaneity.
In my opinion, this is also what shines through most in Paul Motian’s music: this freedom of spirit and playing.”
