RECORDING THE ALBUM
''We wanted to create an old-school album; in the recording studio, the entire album was recorded in one take. We wanted to give this album a certain spontaneity, a freshness, something instinctive. In our time, music is too often a product with a formatted sound aesthetic, where we correct any imperfection, to the point of dulling the message'', explains Bernard Riche, drummer and instigator of this project.
''Recording in one take forces the musicians to stay connected to the moment, and to accept what comes out of that spontaneity.
This is also, in my opinion, what shines through most in Paul Motian: this freedom of mind and play.
